Apart from the qualified medical personnel who work in the hospice everyone else involved is a volunteer.
We have a very dedicated and enthusiastic group who are involved in nursing care and various therapies,
working alongside trained nursing staff.
Talking to patients and relatives provides comfort and social contact as does reading, tidying and
providing refreshments. In addition there are a number of volunteers who are involved with the
administration of the Hospice, fund raising and the other myriad of related activities that go towards
the maintaining of a successful Hospice.

Patient Care Volunteers
Patient care volunteers do not have to be trained nurses or have experience in nursing,
although previous experience is helpful. In house training is given and regular meetings
are held involving both staff and volunteers. Greek lessons are available for non-Greek
speaking volunteer, at a small fee.
Most volunteers do one or two shifts a week, a shift normally being between three and six hours.
As our volunteers are mainly retired people, we recognise that they will not always be
available due to holidays and other commitments.
New volunteers begin by working with established volunteers until such time as they are
familiar with the routine, and feel confident in operating in a Hospice environment.
All volunteers are asked to wear white t-shirt/blouse, trousers and closed-in shoes,
a green tabard is provided by the Hospice.
All volunteers are asked to complete an
’ indemnity and confidentiality forms’.
Confidentiality, particularly of all patient details, must be scrupulously respected. |
Other Volunteers
Volunteers who are involved with the administration of the Hospice, fund raising and the
myriad related activities that go towards maintaining a successful Hospice.
Any one expressing interest in becoming one of our volunteers will be invited to
visit the Hospice, when they will be given a tour of the facilities that we have, and will
have the opportunity to ask any questions that they wish.
Following this, should they be interested in becoming a volunteer they will be invited
to attend an informal interview with the Hospice Manager in the case of
Patient Care Volunteers, or the Shops Manager Sue Busfield, in the case of other volunteers.
We are always needing volunteers, so if you can spare some time to help, please contact us.
